Retro Series:
70s Edition
Over the past couple of weeks, I've grown fond of the art style I've formulated--with it's minimalist aesthetic, simple shadows and lightings, non-tapered vector lines, and a color palette loosely-inspired by vintage pictures. However, I felt like it had limited me with how I do my art. I felt like I've fallen into a workflow that is getting less fun and less inspired as the time goes on. Roughly 2 weeks ago, I stumbled across a series of articles from Dribbble written by Olivia Hoskin. I first saw the 70s edition for their Design by the Decades article and there I found more articles exploring the 80s and the Y2K aesthetic. Fascinated by all of it, I decided to challenge myself by making illustrations inspired by the different "designs by the decades". And, thus, the Retro Series was born.

The Retro Series will be exploring 4 styles (as of writing this) inspired by the different eras. Each era will have 3 main illustrations, following the "row" in Instagram (btw you can check out my Instagram account, @Qugmo, it's where I post my illustrations first!). To kickstart the series, I decided to go with the 70s, an art style heavily distinct for its clashing colors, psychedelic-esque aesthetics, and floral patterns.

Ahh the first artwork! Inspired by those illustrations of a sunglass-wearing woman with psychedelic-esque stuff

I noticed how illustrations of this era are so fixated on lips. Huh. Anyway, typography isn't my strongest suit but I'm pretty proud of how it turned out!

Ahh! The last illustration for the 70s edition! This is honestly my favorite out of the three because it still resembles my typical illustrations but has that 70s flair to it. Plus, I thought I was very clever for positioning the guy's hair to the rainbow behind them. However this post doesn't get enough love on Instagram so come check this illustration and leave a like (and comment and follow as well haha). It really helps.

I'm really happy with how this edition of my Retro Series turned out. I learned a lot in conceptualizing illustrations and whatnot. So, stay tuned for the next edition 'cause we're going to the 80s! 🌴
